SHILLONG, JUNE 21: The KHADC on Tuesday assured to take up with the centre and state governments to ensure that the gate erected by the 58 GTC at Mawshbuit village is removed. “We will take up the matter with the state home department and if necessary even to the defence ministry concerned to ensure a permanent solution to the issue,” Executive Member in-charge Land Hadrian Lyngdoh told the house.
Lyngdoh was replying to a resolution moved by opposition HSPDP MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem demanding that the executive committee take necessary steps to remove the gate of the 58 GTC located at Mawshbuit village.
While assuring that a follow up will also be taken up with district administration, the EM said, “The presence of the gate at the place has made the village people to feel that they are living inside a jail. I have also come to learnt about the difficulties faced by them.”
Moving his resolution, Syiem has brought to the notice of the house on the incident which took place on March this year, where people of the village have protested against the erection of the gate.
He also alleged that gate was being illegally erected on a PWD road, which is the only route to enter to Mawshbuit village.
The opposition member lambasted the state government’s inaction on the issue despite meetings being held between the deputy commissioner and GTC officials.
Syiem said the EC should intervene into this and if the GTC fails to comply, it should demand the state government to come out with a notification to restrict them from using the roads.-By Our Reporter
