SHILLONG, MAR 31: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to allocate Rs 10 lakh for each member of the council to help address the present crisis due to the ongoing lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
“In view of this emergency, I will soon sanction Rs 10 lakh to each MDC, so that they can help affected families in their respective constituency, due to the present crisis,” KHADC chief executive member Titosstarwell Chyne told reporters here on Tuesday.
The amount will be released from the MDC scheme. The KHADC has 30 members including one nominated.
Chyne said that many people have start approaching the members for help as some of them do not have money to buy rice and other essential commodities. “Therefore, the fund will help the MDCs to ensure relief is being provided to such affected families,” he added.
This also came a day after the state government has decided to allow legislators to utilize up to Rs 25 lakh of the MLA scheme for the year 2020-21 in order to help mitigate the present crisis.
