SHILLONG, JULY 19: UDP member Equator Nongrang and PDF member Morningstar Mawsor today filed their nominations for the post of deputy chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the election of which will be held on Friday.
Nongrang, who is MDC of Mairang constituency, filed his nomination papers as candidate of the ruling Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) while Mawsor, MDC of Mawshynrut, as the candidate of the opposition People Democratic Alliance (PDA).
During the filing of nomination, Nongrang was accompanied by KHADC chief Hispreaching Son Shylla and Mawsor by People’s Democratic Front (PDF) parliamentary party leader James Ban Basaiawmoit among others.
Speaking to reporters, Shylla expressed full confident that the KHDA candidate will win the post of deputy chairman of the Council.
“We will the election because we have the support of 17 MDCs while PDA is only with 12 members who are from the PDF and Congress,” he said.
The KHDA is having the support of 4 National People’s Party (NPP), 5 United Democratic Party (UDP), 3 People’s Democratic Front (PDF), 3 Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP), 1 Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) and 1 Independent.
