SHILLONG, JUNE 23: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM)PN Syiem presented a deficit budget of Rs 45,820 for 2015-2016 on the first day of the budget session on Tuesday.
“The total estimated budget of Rs 92, 56, 99, 990 which is higher than the expected revenue generated by the council pegged at Rs 92, 56, 54, 170,” Syiem said while placing the budget before the council.
Stating that there is a deficit of Rs 45, 820, Syiem, however, assured that the executive committee would try its best to pull on its resources to improve the financial position of the council.
Spelling out the commitments of the council, Syiem said that the executive committee has decided to open the council’s branch office at Mawkyrwat in South West hills this year in order to bring administration closer to the people.
Syiem also said in view of the increasing cases handled by the judicial officer of the District Council Court, the executive committee felt it necessary to strengthen the functioning of the court by introducing a post of an additional judge to ensure speedy delivery system.
With regards to the construction of the Market Complex at Nongstoin, West Khasi hills, Syiem said that funds was sanctioned under the Non Lapsable Central Pool Resource (NLCPR) and KHADC has so far received Rs 3.50 crore as first and second installments.
Syiem said KHADC urges the state government to release the pending amount to ensure that the construction of this market complex can be completed within this year for the benefit of the people.- By Our Reporter
