The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has geared up preparation for the upcoming Monolith Festival 2023 at the Khasi Heritage Village located near the famous sacred grove at Mawphlang village.
The festival is scheduled to be held next month.
An inspection to the heritage village was conducted by the KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Monday. He was accompanied by the Council’s chairman Lamphrang Blah and EM incharge Arts and Culture Victor Ranee, officials of the Hima Mawphlang and officials of the state government.
Speaking to reporters, Syiem informed that the state government through the department of Tourism had sanctioned Rs 4 crores to the district council for organizing the Monolith Festival at the Khasi Heritage Village, which houses the traditional structures of the 53 Himas to showcase the rich traditional and cultural heritage of the indigenous Khasi community.
He said the district council will be spending Rs 50 lakhs from its own resources for the festival.
Expressing his satisfaction on the preparation, Syiem said there are few works that need to be done including renovation of the traditional structures at the heritage village in Mawphlang, the footpaths and the children’s park.
He added that the PWD (Roads) department had also sanctioned Rs 4 crores to renovate the road from Mawngap up to Mawphlang leading to the traditional village.
