SHILLONG, OCT 14: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Friday approved the project proposals of the District Level Committee (DLC) for implementation of the 133.12 crore special assistance grant sanctioned by the central government.

The decision was taken at the executive committee meeting of the ruling Congress led PDF in the KHADC on Friday.

“We have approved the project proposals of the DLC. We would accordingly submit the same to the state level committee (SLC) for its approval,” KHADC chief PN Syiem told reporters after the meeting.

He informed that apart from the MDC schemes, the district level committee headed by the CEM has also proposed to take up other important projects under the special assistance grant.

These include the construction of the Traditional Medical Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng. The institute will also be a place where people can avail traditional treatment, he said.

Syiem also informed that the council is also proposing to construct a traditional resort at Jingkieng Kalong, traditional museum at the Khasi Heritage Village, at Mawphlang in East Khasi Hills District and beautification of Iewduh market.

Aiming to promote and preserving the Khasi language, he said, “We will be introducing for the first time the Khasi spelling checking and translation machine (computer) by using technology,” adding “This will make it easier for people especially the students. The completion of the project will take us two years.”

Apart from this, the district council has also proposed taking up developmental projects in the villages located along the inter-state border with Assam.

Syiem  also said that the council is still working on the detailed project reports (DPR) and the project proposals will be submitted before the SLC in a phase manner.

“We will speed up the matter taking into consideration the guidelines of the NITI Ayog in as far as implementation of the special assistance grant is concerned,” he informed.-By Our Reporter
