SHILLONG, FEB 19: The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) alleged that the state government discriminated towards the candidates who have successful cleared the DSC exams from West Jaintia hills district by failing to grant extension to the merit list.
“We are totally against the discriminatory attitude of the government towards these candidates for failing to grant extension to validity period of the merit list, which has already expired, as was done in other districts of the state,” JSU general secretary Emperor Bareh said in a statement on Thursday.
Earlier, the successful DSC candidates from West Jaintia hills istrict had made several requests to the District Selection Committee (DSC) and the state’s personal department for extension of the merit list.
The requests were made to ensure that all the candidates whom the DSC had declared as successful can be absorbed in the different departments in the district.
“However, the personal department has rejected outright the requests made by them (DSC candidates) by citing that there are no vacancy available,” Bareh said. He questioned that when the state government granted extension to the DSC candidates in other districts including East Khasi hills then why the same yardstick cannot be applied for candidates from West Jaintia Hills.
“This is a clear case of discrimination,” Bareh alleged. He informed that the union under the its president Rikut N Parien had also recently met the Commissioner & Secretary of the Personal department seeking her intervention. “In the memorandum submitted to her, we have demanded that the state government should treat equally to the candidates from the region,” he said.
The JSU has threatened to resort to agitation if the state government fails to pay heed to its demand. – By Our Reporter
