SHILLONG, FEB 23: With just three days left for the general elections to the State Assembly, a joint meeting of all the zonal magistrates, zonal police officers, sector officers and police sector officers for the three Assembly segments in South West Garo Hills district was held at Ampati on Friday evening.

It three Assembly constituencies in the district namely, 53-Ampati, 54-Mahendraganj and 55-Salmanpara have been divided in 26 sectors with total number of 126 polling stations.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Cyril Darlong Diengdoh reminded the Sector Officers of the crucial role they have to play on the poll day, like ensuring safe arrival of polling parties, timely reporting of voter turnout and replacement of EVMs among others. The Zonal Magistrates and Sector Officers were also familiarized with their respective police officers during the meeting.

ADC(Election) H.D.B. Sangma discussed with the sector officers on the communication plan as well as the areas of concern in the communication system, while ADC & PD, DRDA, D.D. Shira highlighted the various sections of the CrPC conferring magisterial powers on the sector officers to ensure peaceful, free and fair polls.

During the meeting the District Police Chief, Bobby W. Momin, also apprised to the sector officers of the need to familiarize themselves on the use of VHF sets and accordingly they were given a demonstration about the same.

Later, Asstt. Systems Engineer, S. Banai briefed the sector officers on SMS-based Poll Monitoring System, while one of the BEL engineers gave a demonstration on changing of EVM/VVPAT machines in case the machines give problems during the time of elections.
