SHILLONG, OCT 14: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday asserted that NPP’s candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection is growing stronger by the day and the joining of 8 former UDP MLAs to BJP will not affect his prospects.

“No, not at all. Our candidate keeps growing in strength from time to time, and he is gaining strength from all corners of the state,” Dhar said.

He said the campaign has been receiving good response. “The response you have seen with your own eyes, as per the witness during meeting, every meeting is a good turnout, it should be ok,” he added.

Listing out the advantage of his party candidate, the NPP national vice-president said, “Advantage is that, point number one, our workers work very hard, and our candidate is a new one and has got no reason and that is one of the reasons people like him. Frankly speaking, he is very good gentleman, he is very mature with so much qualification, so people will look up to him.”

“From the NPP when we speak we speak as per the issue we never blame anybody,” Dhar stated.

On whether NPP will request BJP not to field a candidate as BJP is part of the cabinet, he said, “No, all parties are free to set up candidate, not issue in that, it will not affect at all.”

Reacting to observation that most voters of the former UDP MLAs will go to VPP, Dhar said, “Why you say that? Please see as per record, during the last MP election almost all the voters went to VPP only, UDP has got 40,000 plus, NPP has got 1,80,000 plus, now they are coming to us, there is no effect at all.”
