Job aspirants threaten strike

gradeSHILLONG, DEC 2: Aggrieved candidates under the banner of the Association of Qualified Grade-IV, DSC (AGDSC) in East Khasi hills district threatened to intensify their stir if the state government fails to give job appointments to them within one week.

“We would be compelled to resort to an indefinite hunger strike if our issue is not addressed by the state government,” the association’s president Tourist Mylliempdah told reporters at a press conference on Monday.  According to him, out of the 209, 113 candidates are yet to get the job in the various government departments.

Earlier, the candidates had staged a hunger strike from November 7 to 10. The state government had also granted them a three-month extension of the merit list valid from October 29 to January 28 next year.

“The extension of the merit list is totally unsatisfactory to the candidates since December and January have less working days and it is difficult for us to push for our appointments,” Mylliempdah said.

Mylliempdap expressed concern over the rampant backdoor appointments in government offices while those candidates who gave qualified to get job are still waiting.

The RTI filed by the association in the different departments has revealed huge discrepancies in the style of appointment of staff, Mylliempdap said. He lamented, “This culture of backdoor appointments is one of main reasons for the delay to provide appointments to eligible candidates.”- By Our Reporter
