SHILLONG, MAY 22: The tainted chancellor of the now controversial CMJ University is still at large even as others who have been described as “small fishes” were promptly arrested by the state CID. The delay in making an effort to arrest the kingpin “CM Jha” by the CID that is investigating the CMJ fraud has flabbergasted many who are keenly following this latest education fraud that hit the state like a torpedo.
Speculations are aplenty that Jha must have used his political links to escape being arrested so far.
But the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in-charge of CID SK Jain told this website, “We will arrest him at an appropriate time and also post the arrest information in the police website.” However he failed to elaborate when the “appropriate” time will come for the CID to arrest Jha.
Soon after the CID closed down the CMJ University, it arrested the deputy registrar, registrar but the director and the self appointed chancellor CM Jha are yet to be nabbed for the fraud that has put at stake hundreds of students who were studying in the university. Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary whose office had filed an FIR against the University for flouting all the rules and ordered that the degrees issued by it should be derecognized.
As the arrest of all those who were involved in managing and running the affairs of the CMJ University became apparent, CM Jha and other officials had applied for anticipatory bail which was rejected by the Meghalaya high court.
An arrest warrant against him and other officials were also issued. While some of the officials have been arrested but the man who was responsible for the biggest education scam in Meghalaya is yet to be traced and arrested.
It is learnt that Jha is hiding either in Bihar or Pune. Jain said that a CID team will be dispatched at an appropriate time. But the delay in his arrest has given rise to speculation that the former contractor and self style chancellor of a private university must be pulling all his political strings to keep the CID at bay. – By Our Reporter
CID will not dare arrest as they remain in the same posts for donkeys years because of the money pumped in for their posts by dubious people like CM Jha who has managed to convince the cabinet to pass University Acts violating the UGC Guidelines…Now it is not only CMJ University on the list…We demand to know from the Government, names of all Universities in Meghalaya that have the UGC recognition…and by recognition, Vice Chancellors should know what it means.. It should be in Black and white…. and if they do not officially have, can they operate just because the Meghalaya Assembly has passed the University Acts…??? Is that not illegal???
