SHILLONG, NOV 21: Opposition Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) expressed concern over the less number of working days allotted for the current winter session as it is not sufficient to discuss and debate on the important issues concerning the state.
“There is a feeling from the members of the opposition that the current winter session is very short with only six working days,” National People’s Party (NPP) legislator James K Sangma said while raising point of order in the floor of the house on the first of the six-day winter session on Friday.
According to Sangma, there are many important issues that needs to be discussed. “In the light of this, I request the speaker to extend the timing of session till 2.30 or 4 pm every day,” he requested.
Assembly speaker AT Mondal assured that he will examine the request.
Garo National Council (GNC) legislator Clifford R Marak also supported James Sangma and felt the days allotted for the winter session is not sufficient as the opposition legislators have submitted many motions and resolutions that needs to be discussed during the current session.
Marak said only two days have been allotted for private businesses including one day for motion and one day for taking up resolutions which he felt is not sufficient.
Earlier, Mondal announced the names of the members nominated to the panel of chairmen after announcing the report of the Business Advisory Committee.
The members included MLA MM Danggo, MLA RV Lyngdoh, MLA Metbah Lyngdoh and MLA Nihim D Shira, Mondal said. – By Our Reporter
