Shillong, Oct 6: Irene Hujon – president of Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO-Irene) Irene Hujon and its member Rosita War were arrested by the police Friday night for outraging and stealing money of seven women. The two have been arrested by the Sardar police and are likely to be forwarded to the court Saturday.
According to police the CSWO (I) faction president Hujon and War were arrested based on an FIR filed by the girls for “abduction, outraging their modesty, robbery and assault causing hurt.” The FIR was filed in the Sardar police station and the police immediately swung into action and arrested the two of them.
According to the police the CSWO (I) faction members dragged the seven girls from Naaz restaurant at Mawlonghat Friday night and took them towards fire service in Iewduh (Bara Bazaar). It is learnt two of the seven girls managed to pay the CSWO (I) members and were left off.
The others, however, were beaten up, their head were tonsured and money stolen. The girls later went to Sardar police station and filed an FIR. Police immediately swung into action and arrested Irene and War.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang confirmed their arrest. He however could not provide details as to why the CSWO(I) members had attacked the seven girls. He simply told this reporter, “ Only after the two of them are forwarded to the court, I will be able to provide the details.”-By Our Reporter
