SHILLONG, JAN 19: The Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) 4th Teacher Committee on Thursday demanded that the chief minister invite them for discussion on issue related to the salary of over 1500 4th teachers before the end of January. In a letter to the chief minister Mukul Sangma, MSSASA-4th Teacher Committee chairman HM Marbaniang said, “We request you to give appointment on the last week of this month to discuss on the grievances of the association.”
He said that the decision was taken after Minister in-charge School Education & Literacy Deborah Marak suggested the delegation which met her recently to highlight the grievances for the final solution before the chief minister.
He also informed that the matter was already discussed in a meeting with the chief minister on August 31 last year for declaration of the pay structure of the 4th teacher comprising 1521 posts in the whole state.
“This will enable the 4th teacher to also get the benefits at par with the SSA schoolteachers,” Marbaniang said.
Speaking to reporters, the committee chairman said that the 4th teachers appointed in SSA schools were deprived of their rights since April 2013, when the government had agreed to enhance the salaries of SSA schoolteachers.
“If there is no response from the state government, we would be compelled to resort to agitations,” he said.
