SHILLONG, JUNE 29:At an impressive Investiture Ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong on Friday, 14 Assam Rifles Personnel were conferred with the Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals for Gallantry and Distinguished Seva by the Governor of Meghalaya, Ganga Prasad. The ceremony was witnessed by a number of civil and military dignitaries.
The Governor’s Gold & Silver Medal were instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded as a recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the personnel of Assam Rifles in the North Eastern states. The Hon’ble Governor, during his address, praised the yeoman service and dedication to duty exhibited by the Assam Rifles over the past 183 years while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain of the North East. He also paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles and exhorted them to continue the excellent work. The Gold Medal awardees are Dy Comdt Vijay Kumar Chauhan, Dy Comdt Satish Dhyani, Sub Milap Chand, Nb Sub Mangal Singh Gusain, Hav Jit Bahadur Gurung, Rfn Soibam Gopendro Sing, Rfn N Ranjoy Meetei, Rfn Surya Kumar Deori, Rfn Khoiram Nganba Meitei and Rfn T Manglal John. The Silver Medal awardees are Rfn Tater Tapo, Rfn C Korakmang Yimchunger, Rfn Saroj Gurung and Rfn Prabhu Nath Thakur. The ceremony concluded with the award winners and attendees being invited for tea at the Raj Bhavan wherein the Hon’ble Governor interacted with the awardees and guests.
