SHILLONG, MAR 31: Miscreants burnt down a timber bridge in remote village along the Indo-Bangla international border of South West Khasi Hills district.The incident took place at around 10 am on Monday morning when a group of miscreants set ablaze the timber bridge near Phodkroh, a district official informed.
The timber bridge about two kilometers away from international border facilitates the movement of the villagers residing in the five border villages.
South West Khasi hills deputy commissioner R Lyngdoh deputed magistrate Raja Brahma immediately for spot to inquire on the incident.Meanwhile, the district administration has also arranged for an alternative route for the villagers which are used by the Border Security Force.
Earlier, fire fighting teams of the police from Ranikor rush to the spot. Even as the fire was doused, the bridge could not be saved, police said.
The PWD department has lodged an FIR. A case has been registered and so far police have not arrested anybody.- By Our Reporter
