SHILLONG, JAN 18: A fire that turned into an inferno completely gutted a four-storey Assam-type building housing shops and residences at Dhankheti in the early hour of Wednesday. The incident took place at around 4.30 am and destroyed the building owned by one H Bareh.
It took 10 fire tenders to control and extinguish the fire. No human causality has been reported.
East Khasi hills SP (city) Vivek Syiem informed at least three gas cylinders exploded during the incident.
The building housed shops selling sofas and furniture, pan, fast food, video parlour and others.
Syiem informed that the cause of the fire is possibly short circuit from the kitchen of the fast food shop.
“However we will investigate and study to find out the real cause,” he said while informing that the damaged is yet to be assessed.
