SHILLONG, OCT 24: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment & Forests chairperson Renuka Chowdhury on Monday said if China builds a dam on the Brahmaputra, India will have the answers.
“If and when they (China) build dam on the Brahmaputra, India will have the answers,” Chowdhury told reporters on Monday while reacting to apprehension from several quarters that China is going to build a dam on Brahmaputra.
Chowdhury, however, did not elaborate on what type of answer India will have against China if the latter really builds a dam.
Chowdhury arrived in the state’s capital to take stock of the activities of the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC).
Congress Rajya Sabha MP said, “I am afraid at this point of time the situation is hypothetical but is nonetheless sensitive issue and this is something which the Government of India has to take a call on if and when such thing happens.”
Stating that all the apprehension comes with a lot of speculations, she however said, “Since it hasn’t happen as yet we must exercise great caution to see that we don’t promote rumour mongering.”-By Our Reporter
