SHILLONG, NOV 29: Independent legislator from Siju-Rongara constituency Rophul Marak today decided to withdraw support to the Mukul Sangma-led Congress Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) government.
After MLA of Mookaiaw constituency in West Jaintia Hills District Robinus Syngkon, Marak is the second independent MLA to withdraw support from the ruling Congress government.
Both were earlier appointed as parliamentary secretaries by the chief minister, the posts which however were declared invalid by Meghalaya High Court in its ruling passed recently.
Speaking to reporters, Marak said, “I have decided to withdraw my support from the MUA government under the leadership of Mukul Sangma due to his failure to consider my many proposals which are for the development of the district.”
These include the demand for a civil administrative unit in Nongalbibra and shifting of Baghmara community & rural development (C&RD) from municipal area to rural area, he said.
He also alleged that there is complete lack of development in the entire South Garo Hills under the present led state government.
Asked, Marak said that he would still prefer to contest the upcoming Assembly election as an independent candidate.
