‘Inclusion of NE subject in CBSE course’

SHILLONG, DEC 18: Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said his ministry is coming up with a ‘Policy’ to look into the safety and security of the north east people residing in metropolitan cities across India besides introduction of NE subject in the syllabus of the CBSE from next season.

“In the next week, I will be ready with a policy and I am going to lay down certain laws through the home ministry,” Rijiju said while addressing at the golden jubilee celebration of the Synod college in the city on Friday.

He said the home ministry is going to give directions and advisories to all the states of India and certain provisions be made in all the ministry of the government of India for the well being of NE region.

Informing that CBSE will have a chapter about the NE region from its next season, the minister said, “It is not enough that we learn only the history of mainland India but it is absolutely necessary that the mainland India should study the history of north eastern region.”

Rijiju, who has also been made in charge to look after the welfare of people of NE region, expressed his concern over the increasing cases of discrimination against the people from the region in the metropolitan cities.

The minister said, “I feel very sad… such incidents are happening everyday,” while informing that every day he receives messages that some NE boy being beaten up in Chennai and some NE girl harassed in Pune. He added, “Everyday I receive all kinds of reports… but because of that we should not be completely demoralize.”

The minister further informed that the center is also going to have all kinds of recruitments in all central armed forces, military or any other uniform organizations with special emphasis and special care to ensure that the people of NE region are recruited.

“We are going to see that the information and broadcasting ministry propagates to ensure that NE people are visible,” the minister said.

Highlighting more on the plan of actions, the minister informed, every police stations in the metropolitan cities of India will be having committees where anybody from NE region residing in the colony will be part of the committees. He said, “If anything happens to any of the NE persons and if police fails to take action, police will have to face prosecution.”

According to the minister, there are a series of activities that the ministry is working at in relation to safety and security of the NE people  including young students who go outside the region  to  pursue of their studies and careers.

Stating that the centre is ready to create opportunities for all young people using their brains and knowledge acquired from their studies, the minister said, “We will give you institutions and space for you to do business and create opportunity to perform, be it in sports , academics anywhere and the union government is thinking in that term when talking about Look East Policy, it must look through NE region.”

The minister asserted that the union government cannot bypass the NE region and recalled that when he was the opposition MP he used to say that government of India look East if it cannot turn North East.

The minister said, “Why not look properly as we are very important region in this country… we are proud to be Indians, we are proud of NE region but we want to be proud with dignity and honour…which is everybody wants as a citizen of this great nation.” – By Our Reporter
