SHILLONG, APR 16: Over 589 students from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Shillong were conferred with various degrees at the 27th Convocation held at Don Bosco Youth Centre on Wednesday.
North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) vice chancellor Prof P Shukla while congratulating the successful students asked them to reflect on how their education had prepared them to face the challenges of life outside the classroom.
Shukla also emphasized the need for change in the education system, so that the focus shifts from mere acquisition of information to creation of new knowledge.
In his speech, Regional Director, Joseph Somi highlighted the contributions of IGNOU in the past 26 years in imparting higher education to the people of this region, those living in the remote and far flung areas and the disadvantaged sections of the society who couldn’t fit into the conventional system of education.
Shukla also advised the recipients of degree certificates to be worthy of the degree that they have earned from this mega university by striving to make the world a better place to live in.
Meanwhile, the Convocation was also held at IGNOU main campus, New Delhi besides in the 53 regional centres across the country.
More than 2 lakhs students are receiving their degree/certificates in person and in absentia in Wednesday convocation across the country.- By Our Reporter
