SHILLONG, JULY 16: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for North Eastern Hills (NEH) region has been awarded the “Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award 2012.”
The award was handed over by the President Pranab Mukharjee to Dr. SV Ngachan, Director of the Institute at the ICAR foundation day ceremony at the National Agricultural Science Complex auditorium on Tuesday.
The ICAR in a statement issued on Tuesday said that the institute in the last five years has focused on strategic programmes on Farming Systems Research and developed location specific farming system models for rural empowerment
“We are continuously upgrading the production technology of the various field crops, horticultural crops, livestock, poultry and fishery including post harvest processing and mechanization,” ICAR said
The institute also claimed that it has generated 42 technologies, 5 patents and many services for the north east region while adding that around 96,000 famers in the region have benefitted from the ICAR for North East region.
It may be mentioned that the dreaded Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), which caused havoc in many countries was reported for the first time in India by the scientists of the institute. –By Our Reporter
