SHILLONG, APR 24: From acting in school plays to playing one of the leads in the Amitabh Bacchan starrer film ‘Pink’, Andrea Tariang could not have asked for more as her dream debut in the world’s biggest filmdom.
The first Khasi girl to step into the Hindi film, the Shillong girl seemed to have strayed her way into the Bollywood as she did not give any hint that she had ever planned for acting as a career.
Of course, we still have no idea whether the lanky, fair looking small town girl have been offered any other films but, we sure guess, that she is looking forward to the release of her debut film, which industry source says could be release late this year.
Before Andrea’s schedule is packed with other filmy assignments post the release of Pink, we decided to engage her into a little conversation and, as you would have guessed, shot off, “So how on earth you landed with one of the leads role in Pink?”
Andrea told this website that she was informed that an audition was taking place and off she flew and took up the challenge, and behold, even before she could bat an eyelid she was selected to play Andrea, a Shillong girl, by director Shoojit Sarcar.
Andrea is all praise for director Shoojit Sarcar and exclaimed, “He is amazing!” Dwelling of her role in Pink, she says, “I play myself, my name is Andrea in the movie and I’m from Shillong… So I’m basically playing me.” From what little we could glean from her she plays a working girl along with Taapsee and Kirti, the other two actresses.
How the ‘Big B’ fits into the storyline with the three working girls is still a mystery as Andrea chose not to enlighten us, perhaps, leaving us with no options but to go to the theatre to find out when the film is released.
As luck would have it Andrea’s first shot for the film was with the ‘Big B’ and she said she was nervous as it was ‘nerve wrecking’ at first as she had never acted in front of the camera more so with such a film legend. But, she adds, “It was challenging, and it helped that I went for rehearsal every week.” Later, she said, ‘Acting was lots of fun.’
Another challenge for Andrea obviously, like to any others from northeast, was speaking in ‘Hindi.’ Of course playing herself means Andrea had the liberty of speaking Hinglish-mixture of Hindi and English- but she also said with helps from the film team it became lot easier for her. Guess, we all have to wait till the film is released.-By Our Reporter
