SHILLONG, FEB 3: Congress veteran leader and home minister HDR Lyngdoh today maintained that he has never aspire to be the chief minister.
“I really don’t aspire to be chief minister but that (decision) depends on the party and I will always be ready to serve the party,” Lyngdoh, who is the longest serving sitting legislator of Sohiong constituency, told reporters after filing his nomination papers here on Saturday.
The senior Congress leader also claimed that he has no iota of doubt that the ruling party will come back to power with absolute majority after the upcomingFebruary 27-Assembly polls.
Asked with the HSPDP, which is fielding a sitting MDC Samlin Malngiang, gaining strength in the constituency, Lyngdoh however said, “I am confident that my people will vote for me because I got their love as I have helped almost all the households.”
He further claimed that there is absolutely no anti-incumbency working against him but admitted that the fight is always there in every election.
“Election is election. There is always a fight but you have to perform better to win just like in a football match,” Lyngdoh said.
Claiming that development of the constituency is one of his major achievements, the home minister said this time he will be focusing on some new issues which include the aim to develop the historical places in Sohiong constituency.
“This will bring great benefit to the people of the constituency,” he added.
