SHILLONG, JUL 5: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Monday expressed his willingness to take over as the new state president of the party.
“Such decision should be taken by the national leadership. (However), if they ask me to lead the party, I am a person who will not shy away from responsibilities,” Hek told reporters.
He was reacting to a statement made by BJP National Council member, Bashailang Khongwir that there was no harm for Hek as cabinet minister to take over as state president if majority of state party leaders and functionaries are supporting him.
Hek said in a democracy, everybody can have their own opinion. “If they are saying that all is not well in the BJP, it is their opinion but to me all is well in the state BJP,” he said.
Asked whether he would take up with the central leadership for resolving the infighting within the party, the BJP leader however said every problem will always have a solution.
“As long as you can resolve (differences) within the family, it is well and good,”he added.
Hek however claimed there is good understanding in the party.
“I am very thankful to those friends and party workers who have expressed their confidence in me and I will not shy away from that responsibility if it comes,” he stated.
