SHILLONG, SEPT 1: The Mawlai Circle of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today opposed the alleged move of a school authority in the city to make Aadhaar enrolment compulsory for students.
HYC-MC president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said that the parents of many students studying at the Kendriya Vidyalaya NEHU, Shillong have complaint that the school authority is trying to impose on the students for Aadhaar enrolment.
“We have tried to meet the principal of the school to discuss on the matter. He however informed us that he was in a meeting and requested us to meet him next week,” Kharlyngdoh said.
He however said that the HYC demands the school to honour the order of the Supreme Court which clearly states that Aadhaar enrolment is not compulsory.
They should also respect the August 24-Ruling given by the Nine Judge Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court on the Right to Privacy, he said.
According to him, the Council is not against those students who are willing to enroll for Aadhaar.
Asked, he said that the HYC would again meet the school authority to ensure that enrolment is not made mandatory.
