SHILLONG, JUL 30: The Hynniewtrep Youth’ Council (HYC) has asked NEHU In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saroj Kanta Barik to resign “on moral grounds,” alleging his appointment does not conform to university statutes.

In a letter on Thursday, the HYC said the VC’s office is a statutory post and must follow NEHU Act and Statutes strictly.

It claimed Prof. Barik’s acceptance of the charge has raised concerns among stakeholders of Meghalaya’s only Central University.

The council also alleged that senior faculty member Prof. R. Khongsdier was overlooked despite merit and seniority, calling it a deviation from fair academic norms.

The HYC urged authorities to hand over the charge to the senior-most professor as per rules to restore confidence in NEHU’s governance. It warned of “other course of actions” if the demand is not met.
