SHILLONG, OCT 7: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) has decided to hold a two days ‘Shooting Talent Search’ from October 18 and 19.
St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School Stadium at Pynursla will be the venue on October 18, and on October 19 the event will be held in Shillong at the basket ball court of the St Anthony’s school.
“Organizing the shooting talent search which will be the first in Meghalaya will be just a preliminary exercise of the association in promoting shooting games in the state,” SAM president John Kharshiing told reporters at a news conference on Monday.
Kharshiing said, “The whole idea is nothing but to encourage and tapped the unexposed talents.” He said that the SAM will select from amongst the best shooters and send them for further training in this field adding it is just the start in preparing budding and talented shooters from the state to be able to compete both at the national and international level
Kharshiing, however, informed that the shooting talent search will be organized only for10 meter caliber. “This is due to fact that we are yet to have a shooting range of national standard where we can hold shooting of different calibers,” he added.
The talent search will be held for two categories – junior category from 9 years to 18 years and open category will be from 18 years and above for both male and female participants.
The category of weapons to be use are Air Rifle and Air Pistol during the search, Kharshiing said while informing these weapons will be verified by the Meghalaya police considering that safety is important.
Meanwhile, Kharshiing requested interested participants to register with the association before October 14 for the event and contact in one of the following numbers – 94361-02663 or 94361-03685.- By Our Reporter
