SHILLONG, MAR 1: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to sit in the opposition as the party felt that the electorates have given the Congress the mandate to rule the state.

The state’s oldest political party had a meeting Thursday in the residence of its party president Hopingstone Lyngdoh wherein it was decided that the party will play the role of an effective opposition.

The party is upbeat at its performance as it has been able to improve its seat tally by bagging four assembly seats compared to only two in the 2008 assembly election.

Speaking to this website, HSPDP Nongkrem legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, who had left the UDP to join the HSPDP, said “Though it was a routine meeting of party legislators after the victory but we also decided to sit in the opposition.”

Basaiawmoit further said as the people have given the mandate to Congress so let the party rule while “we are happy to sit in the opposition”.- By Our Reporter
