SHILLONG, JAN 7: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to hold the general council meeting to elect its new body in May.
The decision was taken at the central executive committee (CEC) meeting held here on Thursday.
HSPDP president KP Pangniang informed that the dates for holding the election of the new body will be announced later.
He said the three-year term of the present body has already expired last year but the party was not able to call for the general council meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Asked, Pangniang however said, “Our term has ended and now it will all depend on the general council to elect the new president of the party.”
Meanwhile, the HSPDP president also informed that the party has decided to request the state government to provide 10,000 sq ft land for construction of the party office since the present land being given to the party is only 3,000 sq ft.
On the preparation of the party for the 2023 elections, Pangniang said that the CEC has directed reorganization of all the district and area units of the party as part of the preparation.
