SHILLONG, MAR 26: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) is yet to take a decision on contesting the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha byelection, according to party leader and cabinet minister Methodius Dkhar.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Dkhar said, “As a party, we have not sat and discussed this related matter. I will only be able to tell you when we sit for a meeting and discuss in the party, then I will be able to tell you our opinion on whether we will contest or not contest the upcoming Shillong byelection.”
The byelection was necessitated by the demise of VPP MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon on February 19.
Dkhar emphasized that the party has not yet convened a meeting to discuss the issue.
“I will not be able to comment anything on this but sooner or later we will sit for a meeting and we will let you know,” he added.
When pressed for his personal opinion, Dkhar maintained, “Since I am in the party, I should not tell my personal opinion. I will abide by what my party decides as collective decision is more important than my personal view or personal opinion.”
