HSPDP suspend its MDC

SHILLONG, JAN 4: The Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday suspended its Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem for anti-party activities.

The decision to suspend Syiem was taken at the party’s Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting on Wednesday.

Syiem had reportedly alleged canvased for KHNAM’s Laban-Mawprem constituency  candidate Bankhraw Sing Kharbuli during the just concluded ADC by-polls.

Addressing newsmen, HSPDP secretary Witting Mawsor said, “We have unanimously decided to suspend him (Syiem) for two years from the party because of his anti-party activities.”

Denying the allegation of differences between the party president Ardent M Basaiawmoit and Syiem, Mawsor said, “The action was taken after we found that he had canvassed against our party candidate in the just concluded bye-election to the KHADC.”

HSPDP women’s wing president Teilinia Thangkhiew, on the other hand,  said the party came to know about Syiem canvassing for KHNAM candidate from a media interview.

“We summoned him but he could not clarify before the party and only maintain that he would accept whatever decision is taken against him,” she said.

CEC member and legislator from Nongstoin D Jyndiang said that the decision taken was as per the constitution of the party that states anybody who attempts to tarnish the image of the party, action will be taken against them.

“The suspension is to maintain discipline in the party,” he claimed.

Earlier, two MDCs of the party LG Nongsiej, who is now the chairman of the KHADC, and Morningstar Mawsor were also “unofficially” suspended from the party.

Reacting to a query, Jyndiang said that the two MDCs were automatically no longer members of the party when they had decided to supported the PDF without the knowledge of the party.

He, however, said that the party is willing to forgive and welcome them back to its fold if they tender their apologies.
