SHILLONG, FEB 9: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today welcomed the decision of the Meghalaya government to start initiating the peace process as it demanded declaration of the names of the interlocutors.
“We welcome the step of the state government and we also assure that we shall leave no stone unturned to make the peace process a success,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement on Tuesday.
Sainkupar also said, “The state government should also declare the names of the interlocutors to the public within a timeframe as soon as we are ready to initiate the first round of talks.”
“We have changed our attitude and now it is time for the GOM to change its adamant attitude and enable peace to prevail in the region,” he added.
The statement came following the recent decision of the state government to appoint two interlocutors for facilitating the proposed ‘peace-talk’ with the outfit.
Earlier Home Minister Roshan Warjri had stated, “The state government would soon submit the names of the two interlocutors to the Ministry of Home Affairs for approval.”
According to her, the government had already official communicated to the outfit, and is now waiting for its response.
Meanwhile, the HNLC has further demanded the chief minister to ensure that peace process should be free from biasness. “The chief minister should come out and show that he is not biased nor practice partiality.
He should rather choose to be transparent and honest in his deeds,” the outfit leader said adding “We are not born criminals; circumstances led us to the paths that we are on today. We have experienced enough bloodshed in the past.”-By Our Reporter
