HNLC to continue its struggle

SHILLONG, MAR 10: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Tuesday said it has decided to carry on with its struggle through lawful or unlawful means.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “The Governor of Meghalaya in his opening speech on the budget
session again repeated about peace talks and interlocutor but till date nothing concrete has been done either by the state or centre governments.”

Nongtraw said, “We are being taken for a ride. The HNLC will carry on with its struggle no matter if it’s lawful or unlawful.”

Referring to the recent sitting of the office of the Registrar, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal Delhi High Court, New Delhi, Nongtraw said, “To our surprise the meeting was inconclusive and it will be held again till April 18.”

Stating that the police department time and again refers to the HNLC as a bunch of criminals,  Nongtraw, however. said, “But the police forgets that, to handle us, they need the help of the home ministry, state and central to declare the HNLC as unlawful,” adding “And all the top officials of the department has to assemble in one place to make it happen.”

Nongtraw further stated, “When a few criminals can give the police sleepless nights it’s better for the public to understand.”  He further asked what were the reasons behind for the SPs and DCs of East Khasi hills district, West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi, not being able to depose before the Tribunal during its sitting held in the state’s capital.

According to Nongtraw, the answer to this is because they did not have any grounds to declare the HNLC as unlawful.  He further demanded that the MHA first ban all the what they called the Hinduvta militant groups.- By Our Reporter
