HNLC threatens to strike

SHILLONG, NOV 18: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) declared its offer for unilateral ceasefire as “invalid” even as it threatened to strike as retaliation against the alleged step-motherly attitude of the Meghalaya government.

“Due to the state government and police department’s adamant attitude towards our peace dialogue, we declare that our unilateral ceasefire stands invalid,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement on Wednesday.

Nongtraw said, “We have been initiating peace for the last one year but no solution.”

Earlier, the HNLC had also claimed responsibility for the blast incident which took place at Them Mawbah (Jhalupara) last week.

Threatening to strike similar blast in the future, he said, “This is just the beginning of an era where explosives shall prove that peace is not an option. Neither the public nor the police department nor the GOM should blame the HNLC for any future bloodshed’s. We shall strike at the earliest and the entire responsibility shall be undertaken by the police department and the state government.”

According to him, all the while the HNLC had maintained a low profile, in order to prove it wanted unilateral ceasefire.

Nongtraw further stated that the recent statement of the council has a firm ground to stand upon.

“Our cadres had purposely detonated the RDX in front of the road roller at Them Mawbah to avoid human casualties as the RDX had the strength and intensity to blow up anything within 100 metres,” he claimed.

He also alleged, “The police department is trying to hide facts and mislead the public, by making fabricated analysis. By doing so the police department is creating confusions among the public.”

“To substantiate our claims we have categorically stated that it was done at our behest and carried out by our cadres, and there is no involvement of any other group,” the HNLC leader stated in the statement adding by issuing false statements, the police is making the public scapegoats and putting their lives at risk.

What do they mean by low intensity blast? When it shook the whole area and buildings? Why did the public came running out of their houses ? Why was the road roller and two other vehicles damaged and what caused holes in its iron cast metal body ? Why was a big hole creater formed at the ground? Does the police have answer to this ?

He added saying that the outfit’s objective is not bloodshed but it is compelled to retaliate to the step motherly attitude of the GOM.-By Our Reporter
