SHILLONG, APR 17: East Khasi SP M Kharkhrang said that the HNLC threat against a particular community asking it to quit Khasi and Jaintia hills is being viewed seriously and investigation is on to ascertain the motive behind it.
“We are not taking such threats from any groups lightly and necessary action will be taken to ensure safety of all communities residing in the region,” Kharkhrang told reporters on Thursday.
Kharkhrang statement came as a reaction to the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) quit notice issued to Nepalese residing in the six districts of Khasi – Jaintia hills region especially those residing along the inter-state border with Assam including Langpih in particular.
According to Kharkhrang, there is also no problem reported from Langpih as of now. He, however, said that the police taking the threat seriously does not necessarily mean that the outfit has become stronger again.- By Our Reporter
