SHILLONG, SEPT 4: Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri stressed the need to strengthen the women police cell in all the police stations across the state. Inaugurating the new Mawryngkneng police station on Wednesday, Warjri said,“We need to have more women police cells in the different police stations of the state which will help in providing security besides addressing various problems faced by the women folks.”
Warjri informed that the government will make more space for the women police in the police stations after a badge of new recruits returns from their training at Haryana which will be completed this year.
With the Shillong bye-pass now functional, Warjri also informed that the state government is contemplating to open up a separate traffic branch to manage the traffic thereby decreasing the accident rates which occurs in the bye-pass and the highways.
Asserting the need for a cordial public-police relationship to ensure better peace and tranquility in the area, Warjri said, “Public and police should work hand in hand to bring a difference.” She also added that police personnel too should develop a friendly relationship with the people in order to gain their confidence and avoid misunderstanding and also that the general public can feel secure.
