SHILLONG, JUN 8: The High Level Committee headed by the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong today asked the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to conduct a detailed land survey of the sweepers’ colony at Them Iew Mawlong.
The Committee was constituted by the state government to find a permanent solution to the demand to shift settlers residing in the area following the recent violent protest that lasted for five days.
Speaking to reporters after its second sitting held here on Friday, Tynsong, who is also chairman of the committee said, “We have also decided to ask the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to complete the detailed land survey of the area within 10 days.”
He said that the fresh land survey will give more clarity to the committee since one portion of the land belongs to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) while another portion belongs to the Hima Mylliem.
According to him, the committee would again meet to decide on the next course of action after receiving the detailed survey map from the Directorate of Land Records and Survey.
Earlier in its first meeting held on Wednesday, the committee had also asked relevant departments to seek all documents on the Them Iew Mawlong issue before proceeding further.
Asked, the deputy chief minister said that till date, a detailed suvey had never been carried out.
“As of now, neither the municipal board, the Syiem of Mylliem or the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has a proper detailed map of the area. Therefore, this exercise is required to be carried out,” he said.
He further informed that the committee is also collecting information on the number of 4th grade employees, working in various departments and are residing in the area.
Tynsong said that more members have been included in the committee which include, tourism minister, Metbah Lyngdoh and HSPDP legislator from Mawkyrwat, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, besides officials from urban and law departments.
