Heroin worth Rs 2.5 Cr seized

SHILLONG, JAN 17: East Jaintia Hills police arrested three persons and seized heroin worth over Rs 2 crore from their possession.

The arrested persons were using a Maruti Suzuki Swift car (ML-05-L-8177) when it was intercepted at Khliehriat on January 15.

Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh on Friday said 430.01 gms heroin packed in 40 soap boxes with street value for more than 2.5 crores was recovered from the vehicle.

“This is the biggest recovery of heroin consignment in the district till date,” Singh said.

Those arrested have been identified as Thangsiam Haokip alias Robinson (24), T Sonlian (22) and Hatneikim Kuki (2), all hailing from Churachandpur, Manipur.

A case under NDPS Act was registered with the Khliehriat police sation and investigation is going on.

The SP said the anti-narcotic task force (ANTF) has been working hard to fight the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the district.

According to him, a number of consignments have been successfully intercepted in the district and more than 50 persons have been arrested in the last 9 months.

“During the investigation of these cases, a supply network operating from Manipur to Shillong was detected and the ANTF team has been trying to bust this network for last 3-4 months,” he said.

A joint team of ANTF, Khliehriat PS, Lumshnong PS and Umkiang PP participated in the operation. The SP also announced that all the members of the team will be suitably rewarded for showing exceptional professionalism during this flawless operation.
