Hek says no complaint of COVID vaccine side-effects in the state

SHILLONG, JAN 18: Health Minister AL Hek on Monday said there has been not a single complaint received on the side effects of the vaccine against COVID-19 in the state.

“So far, not a single complaint was received against the side effects of the vaccine which was administered to health workers across the state,” Hek told reporters.

The first phase of the vaccination drive was launched on January 15.

He said over 700 health workers have been administered with the first dose of the vaccine so far in the state. “The second dose will be given after a period of 28 days,” Hek said.

Under the first phase, the minister informed that 32,000 doses will be given to 16,000 health workers. “The vaccination drive will continue till we complete giving to all the 16,000 health workers,” he said.

The minister also reiterated that participating in the drive is purely voluntary. “Fear is human nature, we cannot change that. It will depend on their wishes whether they want to take the vaccine,” he stated.

Admitting that there has been a decline in the Covid cases, the health minister however urged the citizens not to be complacent but to take care of themselves. He also informed there have been no cases of patients getting re-infected by the virus in the state.
