SHILLONG, JUN 12: A local court remanded the headman of Mawjongka village to three days police custody, after he was arrested for denying a family from burying of a girl, who died recently, in the village.
“The court has remanded Sken Shabong, the headman of Mawjongka village to three days police custody,” East Khasi Hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem said on Friday.
Shabong was arrested yesterday based on the FIR lodged by the mother of the deceased.
According to FIR, S Kharmuti had accused the headman of violation of human rights by denying her family from conducting the funeral rites of a 19-year-old daughter, who passed away on June 5.
As per the letter issued to Kharmuti, Shabong had warned the family not to bury her within the jurisdiction of the village. Shabong allegedly denied the family their rights for failing to inform him about the death.
