SHILLONG, SEPT 7: Meghalaya high court on Monday directed East Khasi hills deputy commissioner to inquire and take action into the alleged anomalies in the PDS within three months and also ordered that the SP should register a case on the anomalies that is allegedly taking place in Sohiong village.
“The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills district, Shillong is appointed as an enquiry office to examine the matter and to find the truth and to take action under law against the persons responsible for the anomalies, so that no consumer will be deprived in future,” Justice SR Sen said in his order.
The direction came after a petition filed by Agnes Kharshiing, who is the president of the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO), as earlier the district police failed to register her FIR on the large scale malpractices in the distribution of PDS at Sohiong village.
The FIR was filed to the Sohiong police station through the Laban police station last year.
On December 23, 2014, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) cum Sessions Judge, Shillong had directed the Laban police station not to register any case.
Though the police had made a General Diary Entry (GDE) but neither a case was register nor investigated but simply forwarded the copy of the FIR to the ADC (Judicial) cum Sessions Judge, Shillong showing that the petitioner is not the PDS beneficiaries and therefore had no locus standi to file the complaint.
Setting aside the order passed by the ADC (Judicial) cum Sessions Judge, Shillong, Justice Sen also directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi hills to register the FIR immediately. He said, “The whole exercise is to be completed within three months.”- By Our Reporter
