SHILLONG, APR 15: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Wednesday requested the state government to invite the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for peace talks to ensure that peace and tranquillity prevails in the state.
In a memorandum submitted to the Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri, HANM secretary Damonmi Dkhar said for ensuring the progress of the state economically it is essential for prevalence of peace and tranquillity. He said as of now because of the presence of the militant group HNLC, the economic activity gets affected because of the militant group activity.
Dkhar said that HANM is committed to work hard to bring about an atmosphere that is conducive for economic prosperity and, therefore, the state government must invite the HNLC for peace talks and settle the issue of militancy once and for all.
Dkhar also informed that HANM is willing to play a role in order to ensure that the state sees an era of peace that will ensure economic development in the state.
The HNLC had earlier said that it is willing to sit for a peace talk if the state government invites. Even the Meghalaya government innumerable times said that it has already initiate steps for inviting the HNLC for talks.
Recently Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri told reporters that the proposal for holding talks with the proscribed HNLC has already been sent to the union government and is waiting for its approval. As HNLC is a banned militant outfit, the concurrence of the union government is necessary for holding dialogue with the militant outfit.- By Our Reporter
