SHILLONG, AUG 2: At least five security personnel of the Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit were injured when their escort vehicle was hit by a Pick-up truck, which was trying to evade an MVI checking at Mawiong here on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place when the pilot vehicle, which was escorting the Governor’s official vehicle, was coming from Guwahati to Shillong, East Khasi Hills District SP Davis NR Marak said.
Asked, he said, apparently it seems there was an MVI checking going on at Mawiong and a Pick-up truck which was trying to evade the checking banged at the ring round vehicle and as a result the escort personnel were injured.
The SP however confirmed that nothing happen to the official vehicle carrying the governor during the accident. “He (governor) is safe as nothing happen to his vehicle,” Marak said.
The injured personnel identified as Gopal Gurung, Ranjit Mamandhar, ABC M Sawian, ABC A Rai and ABC M Marboh have been rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital for immediate medical attention.
“The personnel who were injured are now brought to the civil hospital and they are being medically examined right now,” the SP said.
Soon after the incident, Purohit also visited the injured personnel at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the SP informed that the driver of the pick-up truck has been arrested and action will be taken against him as per law. The vehicle was also seized by the police.
