SHILLONG, JUNE 21: Meghalaya has sort of set a record for itself with thousands of people participating in the yoga held across different locations in the state on ‘International Day of Yoga’ on Sunday.

Meghalaya  governor V Shanmuganathan also took part in the yoga exercise along with over 2000 NCC cadets at the Garrison ground.

yoga1The mega event was planned and organized by the NCC group headquarter, Shillong spreading in as many as 14 venues in the state. A total of 4958 NCC cadets participated in the event.

Under the aegis of NCC Directorate North Eastern Region Shillong, more than 56,000 cadets participated at 169 venues across the entire North Eastern Region.

International Yoga Day was also celebrated at Air Force and Army establishments in Shillong and north eastern region.

At headquarters of the Eastern Air Command, Air Force Shillong. Air Marshal SB Deo Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Vishist Seva Medal, Vayu Sena Medal, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, Indian Air Force was also present on this occasion.

Yoga experts from Ramakrishna Mission Cherapunjee were invited for this purpose.

Separate programs were conducted for ladies, children and personnel. A total of 500 volunteers participated in the event.

A yoga camp was organised at 101 Area Shillong.  All ranks of units and establishments located in the Shillong station participated in the camp in large numbers.

The aim of the camp was to reinforce the benefits that yoga offers in tackling day to day rigours of life. The camp was in consonance with the objectives as laid down by ministry of AAYUSH. About 3000 personnel, ladies and children participated in the event.

National Cadet Corps (NCC), the premier youth organisation of the nation, created a record for the largest yoga performance simultaneously by a single uniformed youth organization at multiple venues on Sunday.

The cadets performed the asanas as per the protocol given by Ministry of Ayush from 7 am to 7.35 am at all venues.

The performance of yoga by NCC cadets on International Day of Yoga was pan India as more than 1460 venues, including Leh in the North, Dwarka in the West, Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh) in the East, Nagarcoil (Kanyakumari) in the South and in the islands of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep took part.

58 Gorkha Training Centre (58 GTC) and Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) under the aegis of HQ 101 area also celebrated the “International Yoga Day” with great zeal and enthusiasm.

At 58 GTC More than 1500 Officers, JCOs , other ranks and  their families and children attended the same.

Yoga has been made part of training curriculum of the recruits as the practiced for strengthened and make their body flexible.

ARC conducted yoga for 587 officers, JCOs and other ranks in a special yoga programme organized to celebrate the event.,  Army public School, Umroi cantonment  observed International yoga day. Nearly 300 students and staff participated in the event.

Thousands of people in Shillong were seen twisting, bending and stretching on the occasion of World Yoga Day. – By Our Reporter
