SHILLONG, APR 24: South Garo hills deputy commissioner Chinmay P Gotmare vehicle in which he was travelling was attacked by unidentified gunmen at Phatburi when he was returning to Baghmara from Tura on Thursday evening. Fortunately, Gotmare escaped unhurt but his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Amirul Mulla Islam sustained bullet injuries.
Gothmare, his driver and Islam were returning to Baghmara from Tura after attending a workshop on sanitation organized under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan Scheme on Thursday.
However a group of unidentified militants attacked the vehicle in which they were travelling. Though details of the attack are still awaited, it is learnt that Gotmare has returned to Tura along with the injured PSO fir his treatment.
A senior official informed that details report from the district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakador Syiem is still awaited since there was network problem in the entire district. Syiem had also rushed to Tura along with other senior officers.
This is not the first time that Gotmare had been attacked. In January 18 he had a providential escape after suspected GNLA militants fired at his vehicle between the villages of Jaksongram and Adugre, about 15 kilometers away from Baghmara.
All the government officials including the deputy commissioners of the five Garo hills district have been adviced earlier to refrain from travelling during night and to keep their movement a little quite.- By Our Reporter
