TURA, MARCH 15: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) western zone on Tuesday welcomed the government’s move to set up a new police station at Damal Asim, near Dadenggre in West Garo Hills.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, GSU thanked the government for fulfilling the long pending demand of the people. Damal Asim is an insurgency hit area in the district.
“We would like to thank the state government and welcome their proposal for setting up of new police station in Damal Asim. It was a long pending demand of GSU Dadenggre. At last the government paid heed to our demand”, said Rupa Marak, GSU president of the unit.
Highlighting that Damal Asim is used by criminal elements as a corridor for anti-social activities, Marak said, “The area is far from Dadenggre police station and crime cases go unreported from the area.
The creation of the police station in the area will provide sense of security to the people”.
The GSU opined that the creation of the police station would ease the problem of common people, who have to travel to Dadenggre police station. Damal Asim is about 12 km from Dadenggre and the road communication facilities are minimal.
Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma yesterday told the assembly that 15 new police station is being created in the state, which included a police station at Damal Asim.-From Our Correspondent
