TURA, MAR 9: The Garo Students Union (GSU) has appealed to the GNLA to call off the bandh in Garo hills in the interest of the students’ community. “Any form of agitations should be withdrawn as it pressurizes the students”, said GSU president Tengsak Momin.
Momin was of the view that though the students were exempted from the purview of the bandh it was very difficult to arrange transportation for the students. “We would also appeal to the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBoSE) to allow affected students to reappear in the paper they missed today. We will write to the officials tomorrow”, Momin added.
Momin informed that many students especially from rural areas could not appear in the exam today due to lack of transport facilities and many remained indoors out of fear.
GNLA has called 12-hour bandh in five districts of Garo hills today. However, the outfit has called an indefinite bandh in Ampati constituency in South West Garo Hills. Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma represents Ampati constituency in assembly.
The outfit has blamed the chief minister for the alleged “police highhandedness” in Garo hills, which it said has empowered the security forces to go ahead with fake encounters.- From Our Correspondent
