SHILLONG, MAY 13: Chief minister Mukul Sangma made it clear on Tuesday that the state government will not go by the “diktat” of anybody with regards to the propose setting up of designated camps for militant groups who have entered into the process of peace-settlement.
“The government will not be dictated by anybody whether it is ANVC or ANVC (B)” Sangma told reporters. He said the state government will ultimately decide where they (ANVC.B) are going to be housed, how many camps will be required.
Sangma’s statement came on the backdrop of a controversy over the proposal of the government to set up a designated camp for the cadres of the ANVC(B)) in West Garo Hills region.
While ngos and political parties have opposed the proposed setting up of the designated camps, the ANVC(B) had maintained that they are not going to step back from their demand of having a camp in the West Khasi hills district.
Answering a query, Sangma however said that appropriate decision will be taken by the government and this need not whip up any controversy. He also informed there is a process of examining and this responsibilities have been given to concerned departments who are working on it and once the submit their report the government will decide.- By Our Reporter
