Govt to take GHSMC to court over bandh

BandhSHILLONG, SEPT 16: The West Garo Hills district administration would prepare a report and submit it to the state government to enable the latter to file a casec against the GHSMC who have threatened to resort to indefinite Garo Hills bandh from September 18.

The GHSMC has called for the bandh demanding unconditional release of the twenty-five activists arrested by the police for allegedly manhandling Tura DC office employees last week.

The ‘indefinite’ bandh however would have a relaxation period from 4 pm to 8 pm every evening while the weekends would be exempted from the purview of the protest shutdown.

West Garo HillS Deputy Commissioner Pravin Baskshi said that the proposed indefinite bandh is a gross violation of high court and supreme court order.

Bakshi said that the district administration has been told by the state government to prepare a report on how the bandh is the contempt of the Supreme Court order.

According to Bakshi, the district administration would continue to hunt for the statehood activists since they are taking the entire Garo Hills to ransom by calling the indefinite bandh later this week.

On the backdrop of recent manhandling case, Bakshi said that the he would convene a meeting of senior citizens forum and church leaders on Tuesday to discuss the bandh while stressing that the common man must need to be awaken against such bandhs.

The Tura police have arrested twenty five statehood activists and all of them are under judicial custody.

On the law and order management in view of the bandh, Bakshi said that police and magistrates would be deployed in different areas of the district. –By Our Reporter
